The church of Saint Demetrius (Agios Dimitrios) at the small settlement of Agios Dimitrios, about 8 klm SE of #Rethymnon, is one of the most significant, and at the same time unknown, Christian monuments in Crete. The architectural plan is corresponding to a crossed-dome church, dated to the 11th century.
The nearby village was named after this church, and the place is wonderful and scenic. After the recent conservation and rehabilitation works, the monument became an upcoming destination for religious tourism and pilgrimage.
